Word Up! First Vowel/Last Consonant Oral Poetry Workshop
Dave Caserio
A brief jump into the aural world of oral poetry: From Homer to Modern
Slam, From Gilgamesh to Leaves of Grass, From the Kalevala to The
Wasteland, From Beowulf to Beat. Students explore and define the nature
and function of orality and memory in poetry through spells, chants,
poems, of origins and naming; visions, death, and time. Texts and
materials are drawn from a hodgepodge of world poetries and literature.
Please bring something to make sound with, one memorized poem with mouth
feel, a willingness to improvise, and dress in loose, comfortable clothing.
Free to teens, $10 for the general public, ($5 for seniors).
